Quercetin is a very powerful antioxidant flavonoid that has antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties, making it very helpful for people with allergies, and it has immune enhancing ability. Quercetin also strengthens capillaries and can be useful for people who bruise easily or have petechiae (tiny, pin-point-sized hemorrhages). It also promotes cardiovascular health by reducing the oxidation of LDL, the “bad” cholesterol.
John Hopkins University has published studies on quercetin for treating cancer. It was found to be effective for treating abnormal growths in the colon. Non-toxic quercetin not only works synergistically with some chemotherapy drugs and radiation treatment, but it also has detrimental effects on tumors. It decreases the blood vessels that feed tumors and decreases hormones and other substances that stimulate tumor growth. In addition, quercetin has been shown to scavenge mutation-causing free radicals.
