Oregon's Wild Harvest Astragalus Key Benefits:
- Long-term immune support
Background and Use
The use of astragalus dates back to the 5th century where it was described as a superior herb due to its tonic action. This supreme group of herbs was described as “rulers … they control the maintenance of life and correspond to heaven.” Of this group of tonic herbs, astragalus has earned the highest regard and is known as the “yellow leader.” Currently, astragalus is listed in the Traditional Medicine Guides (Pharmacopoeia) of China and Japan.
Western herbalists began using Astragalus in the 1800's as a tonic. It became more popular in the 1980's as an important aid in strengthening the natural defense system of the body. It is presently being studied by researchers at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in collaboration with the Federal Government's Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) research program. The clinical study will focus on botanicals that affect the immune system of patients with cancer and infectious disease.
