Description
Sweet Relief for Burns & Wounds
Manuka honey is a monofloral honey from the manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium) that grows down under in New Zealand. All honeys are antimicrobial, but manuka is especially so due to its high methylglyoxal (MG) content, and it is unlikely to create resistant bacteria. In addition, it may help to maintain the good bug/bad bug balance of intestinal bacteria.
Manuka honey can be used topically to treat burns and wounds because it fights infection and promotes healing. One study showed that it could also help with gingivitis and other periodontal diseases because it reduces plaque accumulation. Another study showed it might be helpful for esophageal inflammation that may result form chemotherapy.
Manuka honey has also been shown to be effective against high cholesterol.
