Best Protein Powder For Women?

Is there a single best protein powder for women? Probably not. There are many options from which to choose, and each has its own merits. There are just as many criteria women have when choosing a protein powder. Some important factors to consider may be reasonable price, good taste, mixability, whether it is low in fat and carbohydrates, and whether it contains no artificial sweeteners or refined sugar. Women may be considering supplementing with a protein powder to assist in weight loss for example, in which case a powder with no fat and carbohydrate content is desirable.

Egg White Protein

Regardless of your needs, Evergreen has an option available. One interesting choice which few people realize exists is egg white protein. Containing no fat or cholesterol and possessing a high biological value (easily absorbed and utilized by the body), this protein is a winning choice. Evergreen carries Jay Robb’s Egg White Protein, a popular item which features no artificial sweeteners or flavors and no sugar. Stevia and xylitol are the sweeteners in the flavored options which include vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. An unflavored option is also available.

Whey Protein

Whey protein is a longtime favorite option due to its high biological value. When building muscle is a concern, here this protein is most famous due to its high bioavailability and levels of branch-chain amino acids, which are the building blocks of muscle. There are isolates and concentrates and combinations of the two available. The isolates are higher in protein per serving. Since whey is so popular, there are many flavors out there. Again, Jay Robb has some wonderful products which are free of bovine growth hormones and artificial flavors, colors and sweeteners. Their whey protein is an isolate containing 25 grams of protein per serving, which is on the high end of percentages of protein and may be desirable to some for that reason.

Organic Plant Protein

Vegetarian or Vegan

Another criterion women may have for choosing a certain protein powder is whether it is vegetarian or vegan. No problem. Becoming popular now are combinations of plant-based proteins, particularly brown rice protein and yellow pea protein which together constitute a protein of biological value nearly identical to whey, which is generally considered the gold standard in absorption and bioavailabilty. Some blends also contain hemp protein, which boosts the nutrient content adding essential fatty acids and fiber. These protein products have the added bonus of omega 3-6-9 fatty acids. One new addition to the plant-based protein world is Garden of Life’s Organic Plant Protein, which is a bit different from its competitors in that it contains no brown rice or grains and the peas are processed to yield low levels of lectins and phytates, making it a Paleo-friendly product. It is a blend of organic pea seed, organic flax seed, organic cranberry seed, organic chia seed and organic pumpkin seed. This product comes in four flavors and is certified organic, non-GMO Project Verified, gluten free and vegan.
